Our purpose

Provide unreasonable hospitality to build everlasting connections.

Every interaction, every clinical encounter, every phone call, every handoff, every conversation, and every decision should ultimately contribute to that purpose.

The reason behind everything we do.

At Granite Pointe, our purpose is simple enough to remember and meaningful enough to guide us. Our purpose isn't only about patients.  It is how we treat one another.  How we welcome someone new.  How we support a teammate having a difficult day.  How we communicate when things go wrong.  How we celebrate someone's success.  How we care for the people who spend their days caring for others.

This is more than a statement on a wall; it's a standard.

The experience we create for our patients begins with the experience we create for each other.

It asks us to look beyond the transaction and notice the person.  To look beyond the appointment and consider the experience. To look beyond what is expected and ask:  What would make this moment better?

We exist to deliver unreasonable hospitality and foster lasting connections across our organization and community.

We connect the clinical care we provide with the human experience we create.

Because people may not remember every detail of their appointment.  They will remember how they were treated.   They will remember whether someone noticed.  Whether someone cared.  Whether someone went a little further than expected. That is the work.

This is what makes Granite Pointe, Granite Pointe.

Unreasonable hospitality. Everlasting connections.

That is why we are here.

Our mission extends far beyond simply providing excellent eye care or delivering a great experience.  We choose to go beyond the expected standard to ensure every person feels valued, heard, and genuinely cared for.

We are here to create meaningful connections with the people who trust us with their care—and with the people we are fortunate enough to work alongside every day.

What is Unreasonable Hospitality?

Unreasonable Hospitality is the belief that ordinary care is not enough when extraordinary care is possible.

It means noticing the details others might miss.

Anticipating what someone may need before they have to ask.

Remembering what matters.

Taking ownership when something falls outside your role.

Finding a way instead of finding a reason.

Turning a routine interaction into a meaningful one.

It means making someone feel known, valued, and genuinely cared for.

It means seeing something that needs to be done and taking responsibility for making it happen—even when no one specifically asked you to.

And sometimes, it simply means choosing to do the thoughtful thing because you can.

Unreasonable Hospitality does not mean saying yes to everything. It means looking beyond the expected and asking:

“What can I do to make this experience better?”

Then taking ownership of the answer.

Because when we have the opportunity to make someone's day better, why wouldn't we?

It does not mean ignoring boundaries, policies, safety, or good judgment.

And it certainly does not mean creating unnecessary work for ourselves.

It means bringing intention to the experience.

It means asking:

What would exceptional look like here?

Sometimes the answer is big.

Sometimes it is remarkably small.

  • Remembering a patient's name.
  • Noticing that someone seems nervous.
  • Walking someone to where they need to go instead of pointing.
  • Taking an extra moment to explain.
  • Making a difficult day a little easier.
  • Celebrating a milestone.
  • Owning a mistake and fixing it.
  • Helping a teammate without being asked.

These moments may seem small.

But small moments, repeated consistently, become culture.

Unreasonable Hospitality Test

Did I simply do what was required, or did I make the experience better?

Did you?

ANTICIPATE.

Think one step ahead.

PERSONALIZE.

Treat people as individuals, not appointments.

OWN.

If you see it, you can help it.

ELEVATE.

Look for the opportunity to make an ordinary moment extraordinary.

CONNECT.

Leave people feeling seen, valued, and cared for.

What is a meaningful connection?

A connection happens when someone feels seen.

When they feel heard.

When they feel understood.

When they know someone genuinely cares.

These moments may be brief, but their impact can last.

A patient's trust.

A teammate's encouragement.

A conversation that changes someone's day.

A moment when someone realizes:

“They really do care about me.”

Those are the connections we want to create.

Unreasonable hospitality creates the moment.

Meaningful connections creates the memory.

Everlasting doesn't mean every moment lasts forever

It means the feeling does.

A patient may not remember every detail of an appointment years from now.

But they may remember how we made them feel.

The person who took the extra time.

The teammate who made them laugh.

The person who noticed they were nervous.

The unexpected kindness.

The feeling that they mattered.

That's the kind of connection worth creating.

Every Interaction Counts

Our purpose comes to life in the moments that make up an ordinary day.

A greeting.

A phone call.

A handoff.

A conversation.

A question.

A solution.

A thank-you.

A moment of encouragement.

A decision to go one step further.

None of these moments are insignificant.

Every interaction is an opportunity to create a meaningful connection.

Why it Matters

When we live our purpose consistently:

Patients feel cared for—not processed.

Teammates feel valued—not overlooked.

Leaders develop people—not simply manage them.

And Granite Pointe becomes more than a place people visit or work.

Granite Pointe becomes a place people remember.

Before you make a decision ask yourself:

Does this create a meaningful connection?

Does this demonstrate unreasonable hospitality?

Does this reflect the person and team we want to be?

If the answer is yes,

you're probably on the right path.

"To provide unreasonable hospitality to build everlasting connections. That is why we are here."
